Recruiting Round-Up 7/2

Overall the past weekend was fairly quiet, although a few tournaments and camps were getting players primed for the upcoming July live period where college coaches across the nation will be out in full force getting a look at potential players for their teams. While the July live period will be busy, you won’t have to look far to keep up with all of the latest on Iowa State, you can keep up with a simple follow of ISURecruitLists or keep it right here on the Latest News.

Obvious to many that follow the recruiting scene, with two guards on the board for the 2013 class the coaching staff will likely begin to reach out to a  few big men.  One of the latest to receive an Iowa State offer is South Dakota’s Gatorade player of the year, 6’9″ Zach Hanson (Pierre, SD).  Hanson has had the attention of a few high major programs and his play early this spring has continued the attention, recently receiving an offer from Iowa State and Missouri.  Hanson previously had offers from programs that included Nebraska, Creighton and Gonzaga; all three of which are rumored to be a favorite at the moment.  There are plenty of other players to watch too, one of which being 6’8″ Californian Tanner Lancona.  The Iowa State staff has watched Lancona in the past and he tells me they continue to stay in contact, also that the staff is expected to watch Lancona play during the July live period as well.  Two of many options that are still available for the staff as we move forward in summer-play.

2013 SF Hassan Martin has an Iowa State offer and has been listed as one of the up-and-comers in the class by several scouts and analysts recently.  According to a recent article on Rivals.com, Martin’s AAU coach says that along with Iowa State, other teams that are keeping close tabs include Rhode Island, Creighton, Providence, UMass, George Washington, St. Joseph’s, Duquesne, Kansas State and Indiana.

2014 Chris McCullough has a long list of suitors, including Iowa State.  Reports from Coast2Coast Hoops indicate that while Iowa State is still on his list, Syracuse, UCLA, North Carolina, Arizona, Kansas, St John’s, UConn, and West Virginia are the ones currently recruiting him the hardest.  Several reports have indicated that McCullough plans to narrow his list this fall to around a half-dozen schools.

Several members of the Expressions Elite AAU team participated in the Elite 75 camp this weekend for New England players.  Three of them have Iowa State offers, Jared Terrell, Abdul-Malik Abu and Alec Brennan.  A review of the event posted by NBESports named Terrell & Abu as the top performers as they excelled not only in 5-on-5 but in individual skill development/testing too.

2014 Jared Terrell‘s latest offer comes from Connecticut, who joins Iowa State, Cincinnati, Iowa, Rutgers, Miami, Florida, Providence, Boston College and St. John’s among others on his list of offers.  Terrell told NBESports that while each of those teams have been in recent contact, Cincinnati is the school that has been recruiting the hardest.  Kansas is the latest school that is showing interest in Terrell and plans to watch him over the next month.  Terrell says he remains open, but may trim his list down following the AAU season.

2014 Abdul-Malik Abu holds offers from Iowa State, Providence, Michigan State, Temple and Rhode Island while also receiving interest from Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Missouri, Notre Dame and Connecticut.  Abu and Terrell have indicated on multiple occasions that they would like to play college ball together and for now only Iowa State and Providence have offered both.

2014 Alec Brennan was also impressive at the Elite 75 camp according to recruit analyst Brian Bosworth, calling him “among the most successful ig men at scoring the ball.”  Brennan said Harvard, Lehigh, Hartford, Duquesne, Rhode Island, Miami (FL), Iowa State, UMass and Wake Forest have either offered or showing interest.  Academics are going to be a large part of his recruitment with the potential to play in Ivy league high on his list, saying that academics will dictate who ends up on his list in the future.

2014 Isaiah Whitehead plans to make a visit to Syracuse according to a new report from Coast2Coast Hoops.  Whitehead continues to list Syracuse as a favorite, being the first of offer, but his list also includes Iowa State, Connecticut, Florida State, Georgetown, Arizona and UCLA among others.  He has also received recent interest from Florida, Miami and Kentucky.

2015 LaMonte Stone II performed well at camps in Michigan and Wisconsin this spring/summer, Stone II has interest from Iowa State, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

Can’t leave you this Monday morning without something to watch, can I?  Nope!  Here is a highlight video of Jared Terrell while at the Elite 75 camp this weekend:
